I did a job in balham (london) where i protected a floor with packexe hard floor gear and the customer was more interested in the floor covering than anything i was doing ,lool.

The amount of effort you provide with protection is the difference between gettting a referral or not sometimes. i.e two decs do exactly the same job but one uses better protection.

It also depends on where your working and the price youve quoted, hate to be a snob but most of the houses i have woked in and my demographic means that they are over .5m from the get go. Jozeffo sounds like he swims in similar waters to me, so totally understand his pricing and tbh think its a bit cheap!

Thats a pretty accurate reflection of how I find things, although my customer base is split between the wealthy for whom I travel to work and local work which I charge less for, but is on my doorstep so I do it quicker and it costs me less in travel, time and materials.
