I am getting a "proper laptop" (The one I have is great for what I use it for, but not really good for doing any more than 1 thing at a time. That's partly why I got it as its only going to have one use) So hopefully It will have some features this desktop doesn't (or that are hiding) including being able to see / use the "Thanks" button (It seems to "block" other buttons on other forums too, but I have got used to it)

Anyway, wish me luck, I will post pics when I have it, not saying now what it is, so that I wont feel I have "been done" on the specs and price.
Assuming I can see a "Thanks" button, I cant decide who will be first.

Unless you all want to suggest who and a reason why they / you should be first?

Hi,

Good luck s-e; hope the thanks button on your "proper laptop" is visible then you can try to wear it out in similar manner to mine? :salute:

Hitting the thanks button never has been compulsory but it is courteous and polite to thank any member who has been of help. :thumbleft:

Kind regards, Col.

Got it. :-)
Switched on few details away we go? Er, no, windows update required.......4G :sad10: But then I figured it wouldn't be a windows device if it didn't need an update

Won't work Col. I think to register you have to be some-body, and someone else doesn't cut the cake.

Hi,

Thanks scruff. :thumbleft: I've still got faith though that s-e will eventually hit the thanks button. C'mon s-e hit the thanks button; you can do it.:salute:

Kind regards, Col.

Hi,

Just trying to be helpful s-e in solving the puzzle of your missing "Thanks" button.

It is indeed very strange that you don't have access to the UHM thanks button s-e when every other member has no problem at all? However may I please suggest a couple of ways to put this to bed once and for all?

Please take a "Snip" of your page showing either of my posts; both these should clearly show the thanks button located bottom right of the picture next to "Quote" as shown in the snip I've just taken of your initial post and added below. Sorry the snip picture isn't better defined but both "Thanks" and "Quote" can be seen

You don't need a camera all you need is to use the snipping tool which you will already have or can obtain very easily as seen here;

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots

The snipping tool is very useful indeed but the snip will most likely require resizing before it can be posted which I've had to do.

As I say a camera isn't needed if using the snipping tool it can be done simply on your computer but a second option is to follow your own advice as seen here;

No such thing as "Thou shalt put this wire here, Thou shalt put that wire there" .............Take a picture BEFORE you do the job

If you don't wish to take a snip or for some reason unable to then you can take a picture and post the picture which isn't difficult after all I can manage it and I'm no computer wiz kid.

If indeed you have no thanks button as you state s-e then hopefully at least you can now prove it; if I can be of assistance in any way please just ask and I'll try my best to help. I don't look for problems prefer looking for solutions so please accept this in the spirit intended. :salute:

Kind regards, Col.

Hi,

Now having a bit more time. I've just taken two snips; one is the bottom right hand corner of your post s-e showing the thanks button so I can thank you if I so wish. The second snip shows the bottom right hand corner of one of my own posts; you'll clearly see this has no thanks button after all I don't want to thank myself so in this instance the thanks button is not available.

If I understand you correctly s-e; you can't see any "Thanks" buttons on your screen; can you see the "Quote" button or are both missing?

I'd like to make it perfectly clear that s-e has on a number of previous occasions been most helpful to me due to contact through PM's and I'm indebted to s-e for taking the time and trouble to help me which I truly appreciate and thank s-e for. I also have s-e on my "Friends" list. I like to believe anyone unless proved otherwise so hopefully you can solve this one way or the other s-e. :salute:

Kind regards, Col.

I would not worry about the missing thanks button, I have previously taken screen shots, but as I have said before, it not just on UHM it happens, other forums "bits" are missing, some one (not me) recently posted something similar. but any way.........

I have a brand new laptop (I am writing this from the desktop, fore reasons that shall soon become apparent)

I am waiting for the "first scan" to finish. (Yes I know there should be nothing to find, but at least next time the scan should be quicker) So while I am waiting for the scan to finish, I posted this, now its coffee time. Back later, hopefully on the laptop. (fingers crossed)

Done.

Odd thing is, my laptop does not show some things (In my browser) that my desktop does :dunno: So to me, it seems there is a setting that is set wrong, but which one? Who cares, I don't, I can now be "normal"

Hi,

Well done s-e; a little faith goes a long way. Once again many thanks for your previous help via PM's; you are still on my friends list and I still have no foes. I'm well pleased. :huray: :huray: :huray:

Kind regards, Col.

Hello... :hello2:
What is the 'protocol' for designating someone as a 'friend' on this Forum, please?
For example: does one PM them and say you'd like to register them as a 'friend' before doing so?
:dunno:

Just click on the user name above their avatar and under the avatar that then re-appears there is a 'friend/foe' button......

One other thing I will say, this mouse pad thing takes some getting used to, I am thinking of buying a mouse (I have seen really small ones) but then that defeats the object of a laptop. Its interesting though.

oh, and the coffee cup holder that pops out the side, what a good idea that is*

*Yes I know its the dvd drive
