Having watched Tess of the d'Urbervilles, I've never been so depressed by a tv drama. I'm not a Thomas Hardy fan, someone must be on here. Was he depressed? I don't think I've seen anything that they dramatised that was good.

He doesn't seem to have been happily married, and he wrote about life as it often was in those days. Few of his novels end where everyone lives happy ever after, that's not how it was. Having said that, he's my favourite author of that era.

If you read any of the catherine cookson books, they are very similar in storylines.

I was a bit confused about the ending, I know she was in prison, but did she get hanged?????

Bobbie,

I like Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham books but I've read a few Catherine Cookson books. I think Tess was hanged in the end. Angel was not your usual hero, disappointing wimp!

Yes Blu, he was a wimp, not only in personaility, but looks and build, the other bloke was just as bad, they werent exactly Colin Firths were they

I'v read a few patricia Cornwell, started reading Lesley Pearce, google her, her books are a milder version of martina cole, and more hard hitting than Catherine Cookson type, (only way I can describe it)

Have to ring up dentist sometime this morning, got a loose tooth, christ, am only days away from going on holiday, need to get it sorted or pulled.
Its going to be a nightmare trying to finish this job, and get the tooth sorted at the same time.

I blame my OH, he doesnt really cook, but he made something 2 weeks ago, which was very nice, stuffed mushroom on Ciabatta bread, he overcooked the bread, speacially the ends, and the crusts had cut into my gums, so I think that has loosened my tooth as well. ::b
Went to dentist the week before for a check-up and clean, and my teeth were fine, it was after the check-up that I ate the Ciabatta, hohum, will wait and see when I can get an appt, living on pain killers at the mo.

Thought I would give you an update, as I could see you were all very concerned.

Yes, I have got an infection, have 2 loose teeth, and on antibiotics, still got the teeth, as waiting to see if the antibiotics will clear up the infection, if not have to go back on friday/sat, am leaving on Monday.

If it flares up over there,I am sure there are plenty Witch doctors I could call on.

Bobbie,

Good that you're on the antibiotics. :thumbright: No idea why but I missed that. Do you have to watch what medication you pack, in case you get confronted in the airport in Kenya?

Hi Blu, apparently you can take any legal medication, as long as they are in the correct packaging.

Being a veggie I always take my vits with me, but I dont take all the containers,(crikey I would have about 6 different ones) lol, I count out all the vit tabs I need and put them in the one container, so I suppose if I got stopped and searched, I would be in trouble while they tried to find out what they were.
I also take my scratch tabs, (antihists), painkillers, and the tummy ones.

I found out if my infection comes back whilst I am over there, and if it is the tooth, (one is looser than the other), then there is a very good dentist, (yeah, as if) :help: but, If I go to the doctors to get a prescription for any more antibiotics, they will charge me big bucks, wheras, i can go to the local chemist, and get them over the counter.

I'll just wait and see how I am on friday, I am feeling a bit better, the pain is getting less, so they must be working, on,ly downside is I can have a drink till I finish the course.

I'm a puzzled puss who wonders how a thread about Thomas Hardy, and his dark, yet deep, novels morphed into a holiday health thread. :-)

Hi Blu, I have about 30 bras now, I need to sort through all the stuff, and start getting things ready.

I will be finished the job today, so I have friday to go through things, and start packing, also I like to give the house a good clean before I go. :-)

:off_topic: - but who cares!

As you are a veggie, you will miss out on the Zebra at the Voyager :cb

Don't think they check anything at Mombasa Airport

Sounds like you will have full bags, but if you have any room left, another thing that is in short supply is pens, papers, that kind of thing for the kids.

:off_topic: again, sorry folks  , Hoovie, I have the necessary pens and paper, and with my sensible head on, I also have pencils, sharpners and erasers. :-)

Loads of sweets, yoyos, skipping ropes, toy cars, loads of stuff for the kids.

Ok folks, no more :off_topic: :-P
