excluding the obvious fryingpan/knife etc
For me, its the steamer thingy that sits on top of the pan so you can steam cook stuff whilst your potatoes are cooking

Doesn't it make the veg taste a bit starchy?
I always use a steamer for veg - hate to be without it now. much better flavour and texture and you can stack them up, but over boiling potatoes tastes a little odd -at least last time I tried it
That steamer water is great for making gravy as well - extra taste to it

Stews are invariably better if they are cooked, put in the fridge overnight and cooked again the following day, with fresh veggies. You can also easily take off any fat after it's been in the fridge.

For the most useful gadget - for me it's a diamond knife sharpener.

Maybe she thought you were trying to blow her up They are a bit frightening if you have not used them before
I have a small one and don't really use it a lot (pressure cooker )
tricky for the non-chef to check the progress.
