Hello

We move into a terrace house 5 or 6 months ago, and have noticed that the downstairs back wall is starting to bubble up. Its a pained wall

There is a window above the location of the bubbling, and it seems to be localised to one area. At this moment, I dont think its getting any worse, but it started to appear in the past 1-2 months. If you touch the bubbly areas it seems "crunchy" but it doesnt pop.

I suspect this is damp, and there is also the toilet overflow pipe for the cistern that feeds through very near to where the bubbling up is occuring so I suspect it might be due to a possible pipe leakage or the water coming in from the outside where the pipe was installed maybe ?

Im no expert at DIY, so was just wandering if anyone has had any experience with this problem or can offer any advise ?

I have attached some photos of said problem !

Cheers
Dave

Do you know if the overflow has been running a lot?

That certainly looks like damp under the paint but it is in a strange position

I dont think the overflow has been flowing a lot, I will check to see if the water level is high in the cistern for any reason.

What do you think the next best steps would be to sort the damp out ? I believe the outer wall has had damp proofing applied , but will need to check that as well.

I have some damp patches in my kitchen (just moved in) and I have not got to the bottom of them yet.

I think that something might be bridging the cavity here and so I'm going to remove a brick from outside and check when I have some spare time.
