Hi All,

I'm not totally sure if this topic belongs in here but thought that after my broadband query was sorted by this forum rather quickly would try this route again.

I have a Goodmans freeview recorder that sometimes has channels flickering and sometimes even coming up with no signal, Film Four & ITV2 + 1 being the usual suspects. This normally gets rather bad when some cars go past but mainly when motorbikes and mopeds go past outside, however as said I sometimes get problems regardless. I have tried one of the cheap Tesco 'signal boosters' which didn't do anything noticeable.

Does anyone know what I could do in order to either boost the signal or resolve the proble?

Eternally grateful

Radio controlled toys and mobile phones can cause that affect, the others will be along with their opinions later

most boxes come with a signal strength indicator somewhere in the menu .

I would put that on the display if you can find it and then start waggling leads around to check for bad connections - a lot of ariel leads with pre-made connectors can be very poor, so don't assume just coz the connector is molded, it is good!
getting rid of bad leads will take you most and maybe all the way to a good solution.

Also, you sure your ariel is ok for freeview? and if freeview is 'meant' to be available in your area yet? Can your neighbours get freeview ok - is your arial pointing same way as theirs?

Could even be the freebox box itself? got another one you can try? Goodmans are not the best of makes TBH - maybe if you don;t have another one is get one from Dixons, Currys, etc and see if it makes a differnce and then take it back if you don't want it and get your money back Laughing

if interference is still there, may have to go to a better shielded lead - use high-quality satellite cable and all-metal ariel plugs

maybe some of my meandering drivel will help? Laughing
