Hi there.
For some strange reason the Main telephone extension in my house is in the bedroom.
The socket in the front room (Presumeably an extension) doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas what i can look for in this socket to see whats wrong?
And if i managed to sort it out, would i be able to plug My Bt Router into it, or does that need to be off of the Main socket only.?
many Thanks

Whilst they say any Internet connection should be to the Main socket, for years I've been running mine to (about) the fourth! But then I don't download a lot of audio or video. As for your extension not working, I'm struggling to remember the connections. I know 3 is the Bell wire. The link that causes the phone to ring. The others are either 2 & 6 or 1 & 5. Check the extension connections relative to the Main. They should be colour coded. If not, reverse the connections at the extension.

Ideally, if you can access the cable route, then replace with eight core, which would facilitate feeding the line to the (new) Main where your computer is located and then, using the spare strands, connect back to what would then become an extension.

Does that make sense?

Just read on a thread further down. The Line connections are 2 & 5.

Memory loss. I blame old age.
