Hi All,

I'm going to be laying some SWA Cable, from the house to the shed before the weather changes for the worst.

I just wanted to confirm is 500mm or 600mm surficent depth for the trench?

Also how do I cover this after?, how much sand should I put on top and I remember seeing a diagram once where slabs were placed ontop of the sand and then electrical tape. Does anyone have that picture?

Thanks

usually 18" down min. the idea is that it is deeper than a spade depth. tiles are usually put on top of heavy duty mains cable but if you wish to do that there's no reason why not. just an inch of sand underneath and a couple on top before you cover if that's what you wish to do but the armour is designed to protect it anyway. ticker tape at a spades depth.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've now finished digging the 17m trench. The depth looks good enough for the cable. Lastly, I'm considering to only dig around 150 - 200mm for the cable to run under concrete slabs. Picture below of how it was previously layed, does 200mm sound ok?

I thought as the cable will be under concrete slabs, I wouldn't need to dig to the same depth? As the previous owner only burried the cable 100mm below the slab, and concreted in.
