Hello,
I have a storage heater in the lounge (Dimplex CXLN), which two days ago decided not to work, although the convector is working.
I have looked through this site and found previous posts regarding the thermal reset switch which may need resetting, however, mine doesn't seem to have activated for me to reset.

This is the odd bit - I have an electric key meter and have recently noticed that instead of the meter using the electricity it's starting to add it. For example, there was £1.20 at night, then 70p in the morning which rose to 87p, it keeps increasing and now it is at £5.92. This happened at the same time the heater stopped working, but we didn't notice the heater cold until the following evening. The water heater is working ok on the same economy 7 system although a separate circuit I believe.

I will check the usual - elements, circuit breaker (I have a Wylex with the B16 breakers).

Has anyone encountered this before or can any suggestions be made.

Thanks

Mike

I have one suggestion - sell me that meter.....

For the meter to 'go backwards' you will be feeding it in reverse therefore the standard rate electricity must be getting though somewhere. Is the heater on it's own cable or shared with something else?

Thanks for the reply.

It's very strange, I've googled this meter subject but can't find anything.

The heater (storage) along with the hall heater (now removed) is on a separate unit/breaker. I have now tested all 4 elements and the circuit breaker at the board. The 20amp wall plates and the flex, all ok.

I may need to contact Southern Electric as it maybe the cheap rate switch side.
