|
|
|
Hi there from a total noob, and someone useless at DIY
Just bought a Stollet Hanging lamp from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50089976) and the cable that connects the bulbs to the power is hugely long. The metal wire can be adjusted, but the cable just hangs there.
This is a really daft question!!
Do I have to cut the cable (and then reconnect the moulded plug) to shorten it, or can it just be wrapped up inside the top section of the light?
One friend thinks that wrapping the excess cable inside the metal casing could be dangerous if it gets hot.
All help gratefully received.
Thanks |

Hi and welcome,
some of the lights from Ikea can be very challenging, my sister one bought one with 6 lives and 6 neutrals to wire up- took me ages and I went through every swear word in the English Language lol.
On the ikea website is just says this-
Regulate the height by adjusting the wire to the desired length.
I can't imagine the light getting that hot as each lamp is only 5w.
I'd just adjust the wire to the correct length rather than cutting it. _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

FWIW, I have fitted quite a few IKEA lights and the fitting 'cover' that goes onto the ceiling usually have enough room to stuff (technical term ) the excess cables in if you prefer not to cut it - I suspect that is why the top cover bits are that large _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....
