That skinflint Colin Myler, the editor of the Screws of the World, got stitched up by Miss Whiplash No. 3 in the Mosley case.

Miss Whiplash had agreed on £25k with Colin Myler. When she produced the goods, the skinflint gave her just £12k.

Then the Screws was taken to court and wanted Miss Whiplash No. 3 to give evidence in favour of the N of W. OOps! That £12k stuffing had upset Miss Whiplash so she was ill and couldn't attend court. As a consequence NoW lost its case. Even worse, any future deal will be much more difficult.

Of course there's a moral to this story: Never try to negotiate a tradesman's quote down. If you think it's too expensive, get another quote. Don't do what was suggested here:
Screw him down

The big and important difference is they had agreed on the price.

The bartering was settled at £25k and the deal was done. If Myler then tries to welsh on the deal then he got whats coming.

In truth she could sue for the balance.
