Hello Guys just thought I would share with you these Steinel Impulser floodlights which I fitted to my house back in October 2010. Great lights with instant light output and they dont make my smart meter go crazy when left on. The cost of these units has not decreased in a year and still retail at £199+vat each.

Specs:
Light output approx: Equivalent to 160w Halogen
Approx. 25w power consumption
Life of LEDs: - up to 50,000 hours
(at 3 hours/day, approx. 45 years)
866mhz

must say the build quality is very solid and typically German in feel and the fast fit design makes installing them easy, which helps when your working at height :?
Hooking up:
1.5mm Pvc flex connected to 30ma RCD on independent loft light circuit then 2x FCU's.
Total load: 50w (25watts each FE10)

After installing the lights I went on to program the wireless remote by means of 4x dip switches located inside the remote control unit this allows you to independently control the lamps (great for showing off to your friends)

Hey Presto...!!! lights on demand
My only disappointment was the 10w low running mode which is available on the cheaper model but not on the top of the range unit, I called Steinel UK about this and they confirmed that this was only available in the non-wireless model. This is not made clear or lost in translation in the user manual available online.

Steinel did offer me an exchange but I decided to stick with the wireless (Impulser)system as I can add security devices to it in the future.
I have 2 Impulser wireless PIR's located in the garden which detect the presence of humans and activate the lamp programmed to it.

I have attached some images of the lighting effect you get from them which is quite amazing using Philips Luxeon Rebel 3w LED's.

Nice review....nice looking lights too!

In picture 6, is that just one of the two lights you installed?

Did you have halogen before....how do the two compare?

I saw these were around 80+vat....wondered what they were like if they were mounted lower down, for more lightoutput.

I did have an open 300w halogen which had a very corroded reflector which caused lots of shadows so I can't really compare them against the Steinel's which are very sharp and focused, the LED's are rated at equivalent 160w halogen. The main difference is my smart meter hardly moves when the Steinels are turned on.

Picture 6 is the back of my garden lit by the one floodlight on the rear of the house in Picture 8

I installed 2 of the Steinel XLED FE10's one at side of the house and one at rear, I was going to install one above the garage but it might of been nicked so I installed the new Timeguard 16w twin LED floodlights which are very effective and directional and cost £57.99 and are very compact.

Their is a review of the new LED Timeguards in Novembers edition of "Professional Electrician & Installer" magazine (free from any Electrical wholesaler) edited by Rich-Ando

Will take some pictures over the weekend and post them up

i bought one each of the steinel xled25 pir & steinel xled home pir lights that i hooked up at a warehouse where i work to use instead of horrible low bays that give a street lighting effect. I must say that both lighting units are amazing. The xled25 is 3x brighter than the xled home light and is of a much more robust quality being made of aluminium against the plastic of the home version.
The xled25 has a much more sensitive pir sensor and the 10% mode is very useful. The light from both units is a very white workable light and are said to have a lifespan of 50 years.

Just to clarify the xled10 has the same output as the home version (700 lumes approx) and the xled25 is 3 times this amount (2000 lumens).
