Well right clicking does bring up the usual Undo, copy, paste, delete but nothing about checking spelling !

Thats with AOL 9.0 browser!

Cutting and pasting in the AOL email writer and spell checking identifies SIX misspellings.

The context menu that comes up when you right click varies between browser programs (apart from the usual cut, paste etc) so its hit and miss if the spell checker is listed there.

Have you tried looking in the help section of your AOL browser? If there is no drop down Help menu at the top, press F1 to get it and do a search for Spell Check

AOL has a good spell checker in the email but none for use in a browser.

Had a look in the help section, have you tried this:

To choose your preferences on AOL 9.0:

1. Sign-on to AOL and choose Settings from the AOL toolbar or go to AOL Keyword: Preferences.
2. In the Preferences window that opens, find the the setting you want to change in one of the following ways:
* Click the Essentials tab to see the most frequently-used settings
* Click the By Category tab to browse a full list of settings, grouped into categories (Billing, Communication, Multimedia, etc.)
* Click the A-Z tab to browse a full list of settings, ordered alphabetically
3. When you have found the setting you want to change, simply click its name.
4. Make the necessary adjustments and click Save.

Note: The settings window shows many more options when you are connected to the AOL service. When you're offline, you only see those settings that you can adjust while you're offline. The others require you to sign on to AOL first.

There is only the spell checker used with writing email there.

No checking for browsing.

The browser probably doesnt have a spell checker then. Have you tried downloaded another browser (like Firefox) or does AOL go mad if you try it?

I have not tried Firefox at home but use it elsewhere sometimes. It is rather tedious compared with the AOL as that has all the email well saved and easy to fine..

I can also use IE but rarely use that either as much communication is with email and thats so much easier to manage with the AOL program.

One annoying aspect is that it does not have an auto forward facility but i have not discovered if I can use that with IE or FF and AOL either.

You can still use AOL for emails, if you have firefox as a browser.

I do deal with emails when using Firefox but its not at all convenient as the AOL program.

Thunderbird is for emails, firefox is just a browser.

I downloaded the Google Toolbar and it has a spellchecker built in that I use for everything.

DWD, I think the Google Toolbar only works with mainstream browsers not sure if it will work with AOL or if AOL will let him download it

Firefox has a built in spell checker that underlines mis-spelt words with a red line.

I'm sure it can be added to the forum, but it would probably have a button that would require pressing to check the spelling before posting.

The limited edit time is not to prevent normal members from eidting their posts to correct spelling etc. It is there to prevent spammers from editing their posts at a later date.
