Hi, I'm refitting my kitchen and was planning to fit the 600mm cooker hood with chimney directly above the electric hob/oven in between wall units where the gap is 600mm. One of my mates tells me there should be a 60mm gap either side between the hood and the wall cabinets is this correct. I've tried searching google but without any luck.

Your mate is right; but for the wrong reason.

Nothing to do with extractor hood per se.. It's about having flammable cupboards above a hob/cooker.

The pic gives one example for a gas hob.. spacings may be different for your particular cooker/hob and Manufacturers instructions must be adhered to.
