sooo my older laptop was very kindly donated to the Mrs.. originally win 7 now win 10..

Mrs. can get no sound on it .. if I log in (Same laptop) sound works .. so not a driver issue.

I don't know how long this has been an issue.. I've spent the last couple of hours checking settings/googling the problem but nothing.

all updates installed. I can't think of anything obvious. So just to check I set up another account.. no sound on that one either

Anyone ??

Not something as simple as the sound turned down on her a/c is it?
What do you get if you click on the speaker on right of the bottom bar?
There are other options if you click on the arrow once it's open.

it must be a personal set up issue if you have sound and she does not :dunno:
do you both use the same search engines/operating systems and security/spyware ??
it could also be a program/operation thats not been updated causing a problem
in other words i am a w*nker just guesssing

Funny you should say that. Uninstalled then re-installed the driver and now we both have sound.. although anything over half volume and getting a screeching noise (feedback??)

I thought you would have, but it's like the thing with turning the sound off. I'd been having problems myself at one time and although it wasn't the actual prob. I'd managed to turn the sound down and hadn't noticed! ::b

Can you access the sound card's own sound control utility? Sometimes that seems easier than the Windows thing.

Realtek indeed. I downloaded the driver specific to my puter from the Toshiba site.

Just an update on this. Had a bit of time spare this morning and finally have resolved the problem. Seems it was with the realtek driver after all.

Went into control panel> Troubleshoot> audio> playback and let windows do it's thing.

It gave the option of switching to a Windows generic audio driver for win 10; switched and tested. All working fine now..

:dunno: why I didn't think to try that before...
