I'm about to go on a raw food diet and I will be needing a smoothie maker. I've never had one before so wondered whether they are any good, will they blend veggies as well as fruit?

A smoothie maker is a blender with a tap at the front (that gets clogged) at an over inflated price.

Are you sure you're not after a juicer ? which then gets a little more complicated and more expensive

Not all smoothie makers have taps, I don't want one of those. I have a juicer, total pig to clean and has sat in the cupboard for years.

Juicer are fun to clean

The point I was trying to make was that a blender is sufficient, no need to get something badged as a 'smoothie maker' which is basically the same thing but 'cos its trendy manufacturers can inflate the price

My blender has gone to blender heaven, so I'll be getting a bigger one when finances allow. This would just be an interim gadget, though not spending more than £25 on one.

Myn oh came back from the shops with a Kenwood Smoothie to go. Tried it and it made great smoothies with frozen fruit.
