There's a lot of beauty in that house, can't wait to see how it looks when you're all done. Of course no one is ever really 'finished' are they? Also, wish I could've taken the hammer to my old place like that, damn it looks like fun!

Progress is being made and I'll do pics tomorrow night - but that's not what this post is about. Wife was looking through the legal packs and come across something interesting, so I thought I'd share.....

I think it's interesting to see the use of RWB (guessing from the picture that it's Rain water butt). Was it a visionary architech who was concerned with water preservation, a man ahead of his time - or too cheap to put drains across the to that side of the house!

Scullery....lol. Thems were the days. Wouldn't fancy going to the outdoor crapper in this weather!!! You'd certainly not be reading the news paper out there, that's for sure!

I don't think the old thing has done TOO bad - it's hardly been looked after. Almost seems a shame to be knocking it down.....

:salute:

Not sure....very difficult to read, even with the paper copy in front of us.

Got tons more....all the origional land markings, plots, etc. It's got both of our parents houses on and their proposed plot markings back when it was fields. Tons of stuff, can't read half of them though - it's all swirly writing that's serious hard to decipher.

cool though, all the same!

Those aren't plans.. they are proper "Blue prints" you can google Ariba to find that Mr. West was an Associate of the Royal institute of British Architecture.

Greetings from Goat Towers.

Progress hit a road bump or two recently, so things slowed down a fair old amount. I'm back behind the whip, motivation has been renewed, incentives put on the table and things ready to rock and roll.

Decided to still do a reasonable finish, but cut back on the spending. I get carried away and the wife has reined me back in. It's going to be functional and well finished - but not as though I was going to be living there now.

Purchased the floors for the hallway through to the dining room. Keeps a nice consistency throughout the house. It's an oak effect laminate. It'll do the job.

Attachment:
1 - Floors.JPG
1 - Floors.JPG [ 322.64 KiB | Viewed 540 times ]

Also got the new architraves for the doors and trimming up the bits that need it. Was going to get the MDF ones to save time (it's from the Shed....don't have time to be going to timber yards and remember, it's NOT my living house).

Bedroom

Things moving along. Most of the prep work, filling sanding, etc has been done now. Lining paper has gone up on most of the walls - just need it finishing and painting. The external wall that backs onto the garage has had insulated lining paper put up to take the chill of the wall and to prevent damp being drawn through.

Not that it would anyhow....the previous causes were damaged roof felt and no ventilation under the floors. Belt and braces me.

Attachment:

Window board also been replaced with a nice new one....looks much better. Just need to mask and sort windows next.

Attachment:
3 Bedroom.JPG

Bathroom

Lots of change here....can't remember what I wrote, so apologies if this is repeated.

Got myself a core cutter and cut out a hole for the new extractor fan - same in the utility for a tumble drier vent. Coring sucks unless you have an amazing bit of kit.....rented, sadly, is not.

Attachment:

You can also see the rest of the waterproof boarding has now gone up - just the window board to be fitted and the reveals to sort next. Top job by the wife’s dad there!

I'd call this progress......

From this....

to the below! :D mmm better.

The door architraves are being replaced too - this door is being modified, the frame is crap, it's not being left like that.

Attachment:
5 Bathroom.JPG

Floor self levelling compound went down......lovely job. Floor is now level, perfect for the floor to go down tomorrow.

Attachment:
6 Bathroom floor.JPG
6 Bathroom floor.JPG [ 310.79 KiB | Viewed 540 times ]

Kitchen

Been plastered, nails removed (stupid hilti nail guns.... :angryfire: :cussing: ) and filled where needed. New window board gone in and the room mostly painted for a second coat. One more should do nicely. Then just the windows to do and the pane of glass to be changed that has that old extractor fan inside.

Attachment:
9 Kitchen.JPG
9 Kitchen.JPG [ 293.36 KiB | Viewed 540 times ]

Oh....kitchen lighting in too, nice. Just need the pelmet things putting in so you can't see them (yes, the JB is being screwed to the underside of the cabinet - all these finishing things take time and I'm spread thinner than than the butter on an anorexics toast).

Attachment:
10 Kitchen Lighting.JPG
10 Kitchen Lighting.JPG [ 199.95 KiB | Viewed 540 times ]

Other

Hacked a ton more copper out, put ventilation that goes under the floor for an airflow and a box was made around where the old back boiler lived. Being filled/bonded and then painted. Architraves being put round for a simple finish - it's going to have a lizard tank in front, so it didn't need a fire surround.

Other stuff is going to happen soon, so I'll update over the weekend.

Watch this incredibly boring space...... :director:

Yo!

Weekend is over - results are in. It's gone alright.

The yellow is nearly gone - long live the yellow!

:puke:

Found it hiding in a room......picked it up so I could throw it away and got yellow fingers. Nice.

Bedroom

Nearly done....painted and wood work done. Looks alright....just need the wall paper to go up on a couple of the walls - it's been lined already.

Window looks much nicer too - new window board, lick of paint - tastey.

This is going to be the first room finished in this house, need to motivation. It's ran on WAY over than my inital plan. I was NEVER going to hide problems though - everything had to be right.

Oh by the way - had to get some white paint, it's a Sunday so options were limited. Got some Crown white from B&Poo. I kid you not, THIS mans hair is thicker than this paint. It was like water - it wasn't even worth the attempt of putting it on the wall. It's going back, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Dining Room

Painted the windows....gone from yellow to white. Quite strange. Shame they won't open......stuck from being painted closed by previous bodg...errr, owner and slightly rotten on the outside. This is a replacement project for another day sadly. Time is not on my side anymore.

Attachment:
4.JPG

On the other side of this room, the old backboiler/fireplace is finally a thing of the past - it's now a nice little box for holding water, or something.

Attachment:
5.JPG

Stupid room was still tacky - so couldn't do the second coat. Tomorrow night maybe.

Bathroom

Like a bunch of ginger ninjas, we have the ability to work in all rooms at the same time. (Actually, there has just been 5 of us this weekend).

Bathroom floor - check
Other stuff - check
Toiler - (nearly) check
Sinky nicely fitted - check
Pink wall nearly gone - check

Look up - haha, made you look. Seriously, the hatch has been replaced/trimmed nicely. Old boiler pipes have been cut off and the holes filled. Just need to get my sanding mojo on before this room gets another full lick of paint.

Never put a toilet together. Well, I have, but not one of these close coupled things. The destructions beared NO resemblance to the product at all. Figured it out though, I hope. Couldn't plumb the water in to the cistern though....lost a connector. Whoops. Tomorrow maybe.

Had to put a bowl of water in to stop the pong blowing back up the stank hole.

Utility Room

Walls bonded. Floor to be seld levelled next and some stuff done in there.

Kitchen

Tiles mostly up.....

Like the black - snagged a bargain with these, quite like them. Beveled like beveled things. Glossy too, which stands out from the white. White strips at the bottom to go with the grout lines (plus, they were much cheaper than the silver ones I'd have had if it was my house).

Look after the pennys and pounds get spent in the pub!

Still lots to do. Hopefully my new consumer unit will be fitted this week....it's preventing me from removing all the old dangly cables/old sockets and making good. Been working round them up till now - can't go without power much more. Will be nice to get me some RCD protection too....had a few brown pants moments as it stands.

I'm home, I'm shattered and I'm ready for bed.

Do I win a blue peter badge or somthing?

Wasn't tired tonight and had a busy mind, so went up to the house again to paint some more.

Kitchen details been sorted. Architraves and skirting board on and painted. Looks alright....much better than the tat that was up there before, anyhow. Was about 6" deep in layers of paint and some offcuts of wood to frame the door out. Strange.

Tiles have been finished and grouted too, I think they look smart for such a super bargain. Brought 7 boxes for some reason, 4 are going back!!!

6 Quid a box, so excluding grout/adhesive, 18 quids!!!

Been sorting out the hallway...it's been a bit neglected. Sanded the filler down and gave the walls a basecoat to show what needs doing.

Spent a bit of time caulking the tops/door frames too....look much better. Seems they didn't know how to get the wood close to the walls.

Love how the door frame / door bell chime show the colour the walls used to be.

This is the view the other way.....not done the door frames yet, the satin paint seems to take 2 days to dry which is a problem when materials are in and out all day long. Will do it later, when I know it's going to be free the day after. Will prepare it all though.....

[edit]....not sure why the pics are yellow in the middle. Think it's the glare from the bulb.....were taken from my phone, so apologies for quality.

Painted the bathroom too tonight. It's done in a kitchen/bathroom silky stuff....it's alright.

Hats off to the folk who do this day in, day out......prep work is key, but I can't help but think it would be easier to get the walls skimmed everytime. Seem to be filling, sanding forever.

Peace.

Progress has dropped quite a lot here....I've not had the time with work, so it's mainly the BIL, SIL, MIL and FIL at work here. I am off next week, so intend to get it done by the end of next week - finished, done, final, finito.

So much for 3 weeks.....I'm such a dreamer, although it DOES fit in with my track record of pick a number and X by 4.

Dining Room

Finished expect TWO jobs:

- Clean, sand and paint door
- Flooring

Floor goes down today now the SLC has gone off. There was a huge dip where the radiator used to live. Sadly the newspaper didn't cut the mustard.

All in all, nice room to be in.

Hallway

Having it's lick of paint done as I type this now, bead to go round the edge of the floor. Didn't want to take the skirting boards off to fit, they were OK and it seemed to be more hassle than was needed.

Door needs a lick of paint = room done.

Bedroom

Just waiting for the carpet to be delivered, then it's finished....so much nicer than when we started. Rot, damp, knackered joists, mouldy walls, dodgy electrics. hmmmm

Attachment:

Utility off bathroom

Floor had SLC poured and just waiting for it to set.

- Painting
- Washing machine trap
- Floor down (today)
- Washing machine cold supply fixed to wall

= finished

Rubbish, no really, lots of it!

Skip needed, will order tomorrow......crap everywhere!!!!

Garage

Central heating pipes fully insulated and boxed in before some dufus walks on them and takes the heating system out of action! You can also see some worktops that have been built too. Need to change the boiler stat and get the cables all in their conduit.

This all needs taking to the scrappy. Got a big copper cylinder too and a massive pile of lead from the old water main. Mmmmm.

Yes cut all the fittings off including the soldered ones, and weigh them in separately.

So I just want copper ONLY? Does it make a huge difference to cash?

Cheers all! :)

I could do with a cash injection - hoping the lead / cylinder boost my cash input - NEED it!
