Hi all, first time poster so please be gentle...

Last night I noticed a small patch of condensation on our internal lounge wall, approx 6 inches in diameter. I had never noticed it before, however as we changed the furniture round earlier this year it is possible that it has been appearing there for a while.

When I checked outside it seems that the patch is on the opposite side of the wall to the gas box, and on checking the box there is a hole in the wall where the main gas pipe enters the house (the hole is approx 1cm wider than the pipe).

I could feel that the wall was much colder in this particular place that the rest of the wall, and so my very amateur DIY view is that the cold air is getting through the hole to the back of the plaster and (as it was a cold night last night and we had the heating on high) the condensation is forming where the plaster is getting very cold on one side and warm on the other.

So my question is twofold, (a) is my theory correct, and (b) if it is can the problem be solved by plugging the hole surrounding the gas pipe with some loft lagging or something similar?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have a cavity wall? If so, the gas pipe should be enclosed by another pipe through the cavity and sealed. This is to stop any potential gas leak from filling the cavity wall with a gas/air mixture.
Might be worth asking a gassafe registered plumber to advise further.
