I did find the humour amusing, but its still odd. and thanks to tool box, at least I am not the only one.

The plot continues.......

A while ago I saw that you can buy copper tape to put on flower pots to stop snails eating the plants [sarcastic voice] yes of course it works [/sarcastic voice]

...........well I have no copper tape, but look at this

I put copper wire around a corner of where they were going vertical, you can clearly see the first one has "gone round" the copper wire. I need to strip some more cable.

(Its not connected to anything, just a bit of copper wire twisted around 2 cable clip nails)

It's a reproductive thing. Some types of slugs mate at height, dunno why. The female gives of pheromones and the males all race to be the first.

Normally they would climb a tree, but if you don't have a tree...

I get lots of slugs, one year I tried the copper tape by placing some lettuce on a patio paver, I then put some lettuce on another paver and surrounded that with the copper tape. The slugs munched on both pieces of lettuce

oh. But as you see from the picture, in my case they went round the copper wires. Perhaps its something to do with quality of copper :dunno:

Don't think it works slug pellets kills some of them but they reproduce at a phenomenal rate in wet conditions ferrous phosphate are more expensive than metaldehyde, and methiocarb and that is what the farmers are increasingly using as it is rainfast they love my brassicas and any tender young green leafed plants they eat spuds and they ate into some of my green peppers and aubergines

Maybe, the tape I used was just cheap copper tape that was sticky on the back (I can't remember what I bought it for originally)
