Hi
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area but it's cables and such so thought electic section would cover it. I'm wanting to upgrage from sky to sky+ but looking around the internet i've found that my dish needs to be a Quad LNB Twin feed. Does anyone know what that is and how i would check for it.
many thanks _________________ ... and that the bottom line, coz big ploppy said so! |

To put it into layman's terms, the little box (called an LNB) stuck out on the end of the arm that is attached to the dish needs to be of the type which has four outputs (hence quad LNB). Sky+ has two tuners so needs two cables from the LNB to the box, having 2 more allows a 2nd Sky+ box to be added from the same dish. If you have a Sky box then you probably only have a single LNB (one wire to the LNB).
If you are getting Sky to to come fit the Sky+ box then they will sort this anyway and fit one for you if needed.
If you are planning to do this for yourself then might I suggest you have a good look around this site for help, parts and advice;

Just as a matter of note to you or anybody else doing this....
Sky+ requires two tuners (as said above) and hence needs two inputs, however, you cannot simply splice one cable into two (technically it is possible to make this work but cause way to many problems).
The bear minimum you need (again as stated above) is a dual output LNB, with this you connect two cables which both go into your Sky+ box (or anyother satalte tuner).
A dual output LNB, it should be noted, is NOT the same as a dual LNB (subtel but important difference here!). A dual LNB has two LNB receivers which can aim at two different satelits at the same time, but may still only have one output.
A quad output LNB has four seperate outputs and again, as said above, can be used for two seperate Sky+ boxes, one Sky+ box and two normal, or four normal sky boxes...... you get the point.
One more thing, you can buy cable that is infact two cables in one. Check that is is approved for digital satelite installation first though and is suitable for the length you want to run it for.
Hope that all helps!!

I prefer to fit my own cables to my standard. not strung along the gutter and roof like sky did it. Cable is £17/100 metres, F-connectors 60p each _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it. |
