Hi. New to U H M. need a bit of advice concerning mould forming on roof timbers in attic space.. Some relevant info
Had upvc windows fitted to front of house, also upvc facias soffits and gutters.2008
Had cavity wall installed July 2009,since then have had condensation on upstairs windows forming during the night. Its not streaming but its there and never was before.
Also blocked fireplace up around this time in front room which prior to 2009 was always open.
Also have zone1 halogen light fittings in bathroom ceiling(dont think this helps, steam etc).
"Mould" on timbers isnt penetrative as yet can wipe off with fingers, timbers appear ok otherwise, but it is forming widespread, felt barrier appears dry and free from mould.
Told this is poor air circulation in loft space,(hip roof) due to cavity wall insulation.
Told to have Eave vents fitted to soffitts,is this the way to go?. Also how can I remove the mould already on timbers,or will this go with better ventilation. Cheers.

wont do any harm to the timbers left to dry
the spores can cause problems in the young and weak iff disturbed

do you have any extraction not to an outside wall
can you feel a breeze in the attic on a windy day??

Hi .
Need to fit extraction to bathroom, nothing to outside wall at present . As regards draft in loft, will check that out next big wind,Cant help feeling that this is all to do with cavity wall insulation. Cheers.
