Hello,
First time poster, so i hope i'm doing the right things.

I've got a broken hinge / device on my shower door, and have googled for days looking for a replacement, but i don't know what it's called, who makes it or where to get another. The shower door folds in the middle and has one of these hinge-type peices at the top and bottom.

I've attached a photo - so if any kind person out there has a clue what it is and where i can get one, i'd be massively grateful. Thanks.

Is that a hinge? Looks like magnetic latches to keep the door shut......

What is wrong with it?

Yes, its a hinge because the door is made up of 2 pieces of glass, joined by the strip coming down. The magnets keep it together for a good seal i believe. There is nothing wrong with the one in the photo, that's the top of the shower screen, it's the one at the bottom which is snapped and broken off, so the door flaps around and is hanging off.

Thanks

I'm a little bit confused (not hard, I know) about the broken bit - so the magnetic catch has broken or the hinge?

If the door is flapping around, it's not likely to be the magnetic latch I woulnd't have thought.

Do the doors swing open like a traditional door or slide into the cubicle?

It's a folding shower door. It folds in on itself like an accordion, but it only has 2 pieces of glass. The picture was taken from inside the shower with the door closed. The piece in the picture...........its screwed onto both pieces of glass that form the door. 2 screws on one piece, 2 screws on the other pieces - and they are joined by the plastic strips running down the middle, as per the photo.

The whole thing is broken and cracked, so when you slide the door closed, the top of the door moves along, the bottom doesn't - the 2 pieces of glass separate and fall about everywhere.

Can you help?

Yes - i have the manufacturer, model number and store receipt all to hand, i just thought i'd join this forum and upload a photo to pass some time

Forgive my frustations, but i wasn't looking to join a chat room, it's obvious you can't help at all - so am not really sure why you've replied to me. It's a bit disheartening to see emails saying i've got replies, then i log in hoping someone has come up with a solution, only to see you've asked a pretty ridiculous question.

I'm sorry - here's another email.

Lets face it, you've included a tiny photo of an individual part and not the whole enclosure. Your description of the fault was rubbish, hence the additional questions - we are seriously going to help you find a "device" without asking more questions.

I'll obviously get your cheque back in the post, as the fee you have paid for help has been a complete waste of time. I offer my apologies, you obviously have the matter in hand.

I will give some free advice though: IF YOU ARE SO BUSY AND NEED AN ANSWER NOW, PAY SOMEONE TO FIND THE PART YOU NEED!

LOL - let's have a look at the facts BG - - i said in my first post its a broken hinge device - you said "is that a hinge?"

I said in my first post "its broken" - you said "what is wrong with it?"

I said in my first post "i've no idea who makes it" - you said "is there a manufacturer?"

I said in my first post "..i've no idea where to get another" - you said "do you know where it was purchased from?"

If it took a photo of the whole enclosure, you wouldn't be able to see the part, as its about 3 inches long. It's not about free advice, it's about time wasting. I'm a member of several other forums that offer help on anything from linguistics to music, and whenever i see anything i can help with then i do. If it's something i can't help with then i don't respond.

It's pretty clear from the outset of this thread that you had no real help to offer, and while i'm not ungrateful for your correspondence, i don't believe that you've done anything other than pass a bit of time. You've asked 4 seperate questions which i already clearly answered in the original help question. :wtf:

I don’t' see a problem with confirming what the item in question is. People use the strangest of terminology to describe items. From the picture, it looked identical to a magnetic catch to a shower cubicle I installed earlier this week.

So? Items can be repaired sometimes......

Well, there could have been a name on the shower cubicle or you might have known which company installed it, which could have allowed someone to say "Ah, company X usually fits product Y". Did you even look?

Again, the cubicle I just installed has a name on it - not in the most obvious place, but it's there.

Same as above.

I might post on your music forum, I'm not sure I'm playing my tiny violin properly......

If i could repair it i wouldn't be seeking a replacement. If i thought it was a Terry's Chocolate Orange, i wouldn't have called it a hinge. If i knew where it was purchased from, i'd be contacting their customer services department with a photo of the broken piece, or would have visited their stores. Likewise, if i knew the manufacturer, i'd have been in touch with them also. I'm not likely to spend 2 days searching Google images and virtually every shower screen in the world, THEN upload a photo on here, just to have you ask me if it's got a manufacturers name written on it. Of course i looked, even in not the most obvious of places, ie the whole structure inside out from top to bottom.

Let's face it, you don't know the answer and knew you didn't know from the start. Maybe you should think about what you reply to, so not to waste other people's valuable time. That is all.

PS - enjoy the violin. Are you sure it's not a euphonium? I mean, some people have a very strange way of describing things...........

Lets face it, even if I actually had a warehouse full of the part you needed, I'd sooner build a giant throne out of them than give you one - so now I guess I am wasting your time and precious email space.

PS - Of COURSE I know what a violin looks like..........

I think you should be banned for your irritating attitude to people who are trying to assist you.

Hopefully GOODBYE!

John

I don't care if you stay or go, seriously. I stuck here because it's made up of GOOD people who want to give up their time to help, hence my replies.

I thought I'd look to see how extensive your search was on the world wide wotsit. I know I'm no shower fitter or spares salesman, but know how to use a search engine.

I thought of THREE alternatives to those hinges you can use, 1 of which can be customised to fit different screw dimensions.

Then I found a site that specialises in that particular make of items, so I had a quick look - don't really care if it fits your shower, as I'd be wasting your time asking for dimensions of screw holes or A PICTURE OF THE WHOLE THING, but they look like this (actually loads of them that look like this):
