Hello each
Fitted a bar shower mixer about 2 years ago. Worked perfectly until now. Returned from holiday (ie not used for a week) and found I had to go past the safety mark of 38 to get the water hot. Have checked boiler setting and water inflow and there is no change. This is a ceramic type. Do these wear out fairly quickly or have I missed something that could make this difference. Setting on mixer has stayed practically the same since fitting. Now has to be set at about 42 to get the same temperature as previously. Grateful for your help. Plumbdumb

The good thing about these valves is they're not expensive & easy to change;
Item No 76879 @ Toolstation is £38.22, including vat & rail/shower head etc.

Many thanks. Its what I suspected. Thankfully I fitted isolation taps in the loft when I fitted the thing. However not quite 2 years doesn't seem a long time even for a cheap item. Thansk again. Plumbdumb

Ceramic cartridge valves are not the best! If you replace it, give the Hot & Cold a good flush through. Why not stick in a couple of filters/iso valves. Just a little crud can knacker these valves.

Lidl were selling bar mixers for £15 a few years ago., we fitted loads in this Hotel job. We've never had a problem with them, but we fitted full bore iso valves & in-line filters......... :thumbright:

Combined iso valve & filter....................Item 16619 @Toolstation £7.22.

Many thanks again. Will take your advice. The thing is still working so I will investigate a new one and will certainly add full bore iso valves and filters when I fit it. Thanks for taking the time to add to this query. Plumbdumb

Hello
Just a quick followup to the shower mixer problem. Did as advised and fitted the kit from Toolstation as advised by Dickie. Easy peesy as it happens. When I removed to old one was staggered at the amount of lime scale blocking the filters to the mixers. I suspect this restricted the flow into the mix making an adjustment necessary. I suspect a good de-gunge will restore it to proper working order and give me a spare. Just need to remember to clean the filters in the isolator valves from time to time. Again many thanks for the excellent advice. Great site. Plumbdumb
