Is it just me does anyone else find that the cheaper screws end up snapping half the time or the heads just twisting off??

Yes especially if you use a drill/driver to drive them in like most people do.

I tend to go for either Turbogold screws, spax or Reisser

Cheap screws are false economy....spend more time pre drilling, removing broken ones than you do, screwing the good ones in.

I particularly like the tat, cheap, gypo, pikey screws that you get with cheap door handles, and imitation perkos.

I got a case of turbogold screws froms crewfix a while back.
I think i've only snapped one screw, but I did manage to drop the whole bloody case TWICE
lots of fun trying to get the right screws back in the right compartment :)

agreed that cheapo screws are crap like. up here the builders merchants sell silver twin thread screws. cant think of the make. if theres even a make on em. there crap tho. dont pull timbers together. the heads round off inside if the screw gets a bit tight. etc etc. i normally use reisser or equivalent makes.
