A few of my mates say they use screwfix.com for everything... and they mean everything!

It does seem pretty cheap. Are there any other online stores with as good prices or should I be pretty confident Im getting good deals on most of the essentials.

Thanks

Screwfix, IMO, is going in the wrong direction. Prices are going up, coffee in no longer free at the trade counters and the service at the trade centres is like it was in Argos 10 yrs ago - i.e. you need to queue up twice ::b

On the plus side they are open all the time and do have a good range of stock - if not always available when you've queued up for 20mins ::b

Screwfix is now owned by Kingfisher - the owners of B&Q. Toolstation is the new Screwfix. The guy who set up Screwfix sold in to Kingfisher then set up Toolstation.

I've used Screwfix, only problem I've found is the packing of goods, they must employ some chimps on piece rate to throw things into boxes.

screwfix is just the next big shed, most real trade counters will beat them on price if u haggle unless they are running lost leaders which they can do because of the B&Q power

They are normally pretty cheap for most items, but take a look at the bosch pmf 180e This machine can be bought in most shops for less than £70 but it is £99 in screwfix.

Screwfix are also often let down by the couriers that they use and it is common for them to say they will deliver on a certain day, but will not do!

Sometimes SF is convenient, beceause they have such a wide range of products.

By no means cheap anymore though.

Yeah, screwfix are getting less and less competitive on price. They are also stocking a smaller and smaller ranger of each item (say less different types of screws) in order to stock more different kinds of items. I often now find that they no longer stock items I have bought from them before when I go to buy more.

I've found that a couple of times - bloody annoying!!

Toolstation have only ever once let me down by not having something in stock - but they could do with slightly longer opening hours. 6pm closing through the week often makes it a bit of a mad dash to get there after work.
