Hi,

I was pleased to receive email notification of the current Screwfix sale and browsed the contents. I came across 5M coils of cable and thought this would be handy because I want to replace the mains lead on my Hydrovane compressor and to make the trip out worthwhile I'll buy two coils giving me a spare? Logging on to the Screwfix website I found each of our local stores showing one coil only in stock; did this mean one coil per customer? I didn't bother ordering.

Out of curiosity I browsed eBay for similar cable and was amazed to find the following differences;

http://www.screwfix.com/p/round-flexible-cable-3183y-3-core-1-5mm-x-5m-black/78174

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Flex-3183Y-1-5mm-15-Amp-3-Core-Flexible-Cable-All-Lengths-1m-5m-10m-25m-/390517627999?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&var=&hash=item5aecaa1c5f

I've always liked Screwfix; am I missing something because it appears in the Screwfix sale this cable is £7.74 it now being half price whereas non sale through eBay with free click and collect from our local Argos it is only £5.50?

Kind regards, Col.

Screwfix are more expensive for most things in general,I always check prices elsewhere.
However they do have a few things that are really good value and the sale throws up some sensational offers.......if they ever have them in stock!!

Whenever sourcing basic 1.5mm flex I always check the local DIY sheds for cheap extension coils (on spools/reels) as you can often get a 25m length PLUS the reel for less than the cost of bare cable! And you get a free plug!

I'm guilty of that one too.

I also always chop the cable off any electrical items that are going in the bin, not only do the plugs come in handy but most of the cables are good stuff too.

It's normally the old 28 day trick the retailers play with consumers. Artificially inflate the cost of something for 28 days and then bring it down to the original price claiming it's reduced when in fact it's not.

I normally shop between Screwfix and Toolstation but I'm lucky as they are only a couple of hundred metres away in Falkirk.

Hi,

Screwfix used to be my favourite store but now its fallen from grace with me. I've now bought 25m of the cable through eBay total cost £20 including second class delivery. Sale price at Screwfix for same cable £7.74 per 5m; normal price £15.48 per 5m. Shame on you Screwfix.

Kind regards, Col.

Hi,

I thought it time to buy more Evo-Stik exterior resin W wood adhesive before I finally ran out of it. Normally I would just pop in to Screwfix but this time I checked Screwfix price first. WOW £10.89 each for 1L collected from store.

http://www.screwfix.com/c/sealants-adhesives/wood-adhesives/cat850080?cm_sp=managedredirect-_-SealantsAdhesives-_-woodglueadhesive

I then checked Toolstation and last night ordered 2 x 1L of the Resin W costing me £15.94. Not only have I saved £5.84 the glue arrived before 9 o'clock this morning which is outstanding service with free delivery because I spent over £10. Toolstation deserve my custom with such fair prices and exemplary delivery. Well done Toolstation. I believe a Toolstation store is shortly to open in Huddersfield so I'll be a regular customer.

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p39201?table=no

For years I've shopped at Screwfix finding it convenient and the prices there used to be very competitive with clean stores; easy parking and friendly staff; unfortunately for Screwfix I refuse to pay such inflated prices when I can buy so much cheaper elsewhere and even save time and fuel costs.

Kind regards, Col.

All prices anywhere are "invitation to treat"-you are welcome to shop around. I know it's not allways convenient and if we all did that we would spend more time getting the cheaper prices thn it takes to do whatever we are buying the things for. It is annoying when prices vary so much for the same thing, (sometimes even between two outlets owned by the same parent company) though or vary in different parts of the country because"the market will stand it"-which I find dispicable and blatant profiteering..

Good thing you didn't go here for cable......

:wtf: I can only suppose that that's an error, or in pence(or Lira!)
