Hi from Leeds

Just joined because I am bound to have questions regarding a somewhat temperamental boiler, so best say hi first.

I'm not in a trade, IT by profession and more recently legal stuff. I've worked on all sorts of stuff over the decades, high voltage, high vacuum, radio, x-ray, computer, but these past 15 years I just ride a keyboard!

I've always been into DIY and I'm never happy not knowing why something doesn't work (or indeed not knowing how something does work) so always keen to learn. Telling me something is beyond repair (like the boiler people tried) does nothing for me unless it really is a pile of burning embers!

My biggest (and still unfinished!) project to date is a 2-storey extension - we had a builder do the foundations, walls and roof, and I did the rest (floors, ceilings, insulation, heating, showers, bogs, plasterboard, electrics [pre part-P!]) or arranged people to do stuff I couldn't. Taught me a lot! After costs, this saved over 50% of the original cost, not too bad. Mind you, I've been 15 years never quite finishing it... hah.
