If you have ever booked a 'cheap' holiday through ryanair, you will know as well as lumping in just about everything as an optional extra, you also have to pay £5 per person per flight when booked with a credit or debit card. So if your booking cheap return flights for 4, theres an extra £40 (£5 per person each way) on top of your flight costs, making those £1 flights suddenly more expensive.
There is however a way around this!
What you do is see how much your flights cost, and before checking out, open a new window goto the ryanair site and buy a gift voucher as there are no charges on using a card for this. When purchased you get a gift voucher code, its important to use this as the email can take a few days to come through with the code in it. You then go back to the other window, checkout and use the voucher code as payment! Voila no credit card fees.
The vouchers are sold in certain demoninations and you have to use the whole voucher, you dont get back and underspend!
Heres a real life example!
£1 offer on flights inc fees.
2 return flights to prague - £4 (£1 each way for 2 people)
Taxes + Fees - 0
Checked baggage fee - £20 (£10per bag, 1 bag each way)
Total £24
Credit card fees - £20 (£5 per person per flight, 2 return flights = 4 flights)
Total flight cost with debit/credit card = £44
However purchasing a £30 gift voucher meant no credit card fees, so holiday only cost £24, however you loose the remaining voucher credit, so the real cost is
Total flight cost with voucher = £30
£14 might not be a massive saving, but if your flights are already expensive, every penny helps :)
In short buy and send yourself (or do it in the wifes name) a gift voucher to cover cost of flights to save Credit Debit card charges.
The charges apply to all cards except visa electron which dont get charged!
