Hi Hoovie
Sorry, just saw your reply. I recently installed a mixer shower unit and used these and they were a nightmare to seal but I sorted it eventually. But I have another mixer unit to do soon and was wondering what to use instead.
Thanks for the info.... |

Hi Jet, NP -
This is what I used instead of those S-Unions
- MUCH better
Hi Mooncat, yes, I threw them (s-unions) in my plumbing box 'just in case' - do you want them? _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

| Can't think what I'd use one for, I just wondered, from the message, why it was in the Free to good home section. |

Would these be OK to use on a stud partition wall lined with aquapanel and porcelain tiles? |

Stud Partition wall lined with aquapanel is exactly what I used them with - my tiles were basic wall tiles, but can't imagine why porcelain tiles would be an issue
BTW - the mountings in the pic are "Bristan Wall Mount Fixings For Bar Showers Chrome - WMNT10C" and are about £45 here. Screwfix sell the same cheaper - but I have never managed to find that product again there in their catalog _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

Many thanks for this Hoovie. Will order a set tomorrow.
I was tearing my hair out wondering how to fix the s-unions. Why would anyone invent / supply such a thing? I just can't see the point in them. |

Good stuff - they are not cheap but a very solid bit of kit
There is a how-to here with some pics of how these were fitted _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

Hoovie, again many thanks for this. I've just ordered a set.
One last query. What did you use to cut the aquapanel? I've been using a fine toothed jig saw blade, but it blunts very quickly.
Also, I haven't got round to cutting holes in the aquapanel yet - is there anything I should look out for? |

there are a few posts on the forum about ways to cut aquapanel - check the bathroom bit in plumbing.
Following various ideas from other members here, I think I found the best way was to treat it like plasterboard, but scoring VERY hard with a stanley knife. you can then snap it just like Plasterboard and then use the knife to cut the fibre strands that are left connected.
if you need to make cuts close to edge then a saw is the way to go - stock up on cheap blades
Driiling holes? no tips really that are not obvious - just remember it is cement type material so is hard on blades and bits - if you have a masonary drill bit large enough, I would use that I think (non-hammer action of course ) but HSS bits will do the job just as well. _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

I used a set of diamond grit edged holesaw (won on UHM) to cut holes in aquapanel for water and waste pipes to pass through.
I cut my panels using a hardpoint saw.
