I'm undertaking some work in my garden which involves (amongst other things) a low and long retaining wall, and a single skin workshop built onto the back of the existing garage.

I have cleared the space and am about to start digging the trenches for the foundations but wanted to check a couple things.

The workshop outside wall is going to act as part of the retaining wall, but I have stated to wonder what would be the best way of integrating damp proofing on this? The wall will have a DPM and be backfilled. The wall will only be holding back about 18inches of garden and will run about 6.5m with a 1.5m set of steps part way through. The previous wall we took down had no drainage and the garden doesn't get waterlogged. Would a land drain/french drain be required behind this new wall? If so, should I be looking to plumb this into the existing storm water drain next to the house?

I have a ton of questions but feel this will get me started.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.
