hey folks

i scored a free trailer :thumbright:
yes there is a reason it was free... but :idea1:

i am going to remove the old rotten ply and restore the metal frame...
i have the power drill and a SDS drill... the frame is got plenty of surface rust and the paint... what's left of it! is in shite
would a metal brisle type attachment do the job of cleaning up the frame? would the metal brisle get it to a point where its ready for paint/spray? or would i be best to bring it to the local sand blaster fella and not metal brisle it?
i bought a welder and am a raw novice.... hopefully the welds to come will hold!

anyway any advies on how best to start getting thre trailer ready for paint/spray would be great :)

o yea on the spray/paint side of the project... what about a tin of metal paint?

Brushes in drills are pretty poor.

A Twist knot cup brush in an angle grinder works much better. If you are willing to pay to have it blasted, get that done. Will get into the corners easier, plus you wont need to do it yourself. :thumbleft:
Once its blasted, it will need painting asap, before any rust starts forming again.
From the blasting, no other prep is required except a blow over with an airline to remove any dust.

Get yourself practicing the welding, is it one of theses cheap Lidl affairs?

Take a look here-
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/arc-tutorial.htm

Theres no point me telling you about it, its all there....should get you going.

Red oxide... assuming zink paint would be too expensive for you.

Red oxide is a half decent general purpose paint.
If you plan on using hammerite, watch what primer you use. I have had problems with reactions between the two.

Zinc phosphate would be better, but more expensive.

Or an epoxy based primer would be even better....
