Hello

Who is responcible for an external electricity meter cabinet? Is it the electricity supplier, as for the meter itself and the "big" fuse, or the building owner?

I asking on behalf of my local village hall as the meter box on the hall has been vandelisesd and the door now won't shut propperly. If it is upto the electric co. to fix it it would be good as it looks quite a big job to get a new one fixed into the brickwork but it would be good to be armed with "the knowlage" before approching them. :wink:

Thanks for any help
Will

Meter and main fuse is the suppliers responsibility although they may charge 'you' if they think you didn't take adequate precautions to prevent vandalism.

I can't remember if my aunt's land lady had to pay for there meter to be fixed. The reason being is that my aunt and uncle were told they couldn't move in for a week as the people in previously had by passed the meter because they were doing something in the house they were not ment to be doing. So I cant remeber if she had to pay for it to be fixed as she wasn't checking on the tenants.

Cabinet is your problem. Contents (meter/supply fuse) are the responsibility of your DNO.

You can get spares (doors, locks etc.) and replacements from these guys;

Thanks lcdman, Good to know where we stand. BTW, what's a "DNO"? I think I can guess but in case I have to explain this to someone it would be nice to know for sure.

Thanks again
Will

DNO is the Distribution Network Operator, responsible for the supply infrastructure up to and including the supply fuse & meter. This is different to your electricity supplier.

Find yours here;
