Hi, I need to re-fix a batten against my stair wall to which the bannister rail is attached. The problem is my wall is built using Thermalite block. My previous attempt using heavy duty Fisher plugs some years back has finally given up. Has anyone here got experience of using resin fixings in this type of material? I've been browsing the Screwfix site and there is so much choice I'm feeling a bit lost. Any help would be appreciated. I'm just wondering what gauge of rod to use and what type of resin since there is polyester, epoxy, etc you name it.
Ta.

What size plugs were you using, red or brown, Ive never had any problems with brown plugs in thermalite blocks.
In thermalite I found it better to use a masonry bit slightly smaller than recomended, and dont have the hammer action on.

I think I used the grey fisher plugs but it was quite a few years ago, so they've done well really. They are really good quality but the problem is they have pulled out of the block at the top of the stairs where all the stress is. The rest of the batten is firmly fixed so I was thinking of simply drilling a couple of extra holes and using the resin fixings and then filling over the end of the threaded rod/nut.

Thanks
