Hello.

I am hoping someone can clear something up for me - or tell me I'm a muppet! Anyway, I have a small internal bathroom and the extractor fan has failed. I am wanting to replace it with the icon 15 - the basic model so that it comes on with the light that's all! I understand that I can replace like for like under the new regulations. However, the old unit had a timer on it, and I am now faced with four wires, and only two connectors on the new fan.

The brown and blue I'm quite happy with - the new fan has a L and N so connecting these seems straight forward. The others are the earth - can I put this into a terminal block and then tape off as the fan does not have a connector? And a yellow wire with a little red sleeve, which from reading I believe to be the switched live. It's this one which is causing me issues! Where does it go? Should I wire it in with the other live wire or into a separate terminal block?

... or alternatively should I get the timer unit for the fan?

thanks.
F

Argh! Sorry - meant the blue and red are straightforward to wire in as N and L.

The switched live is the one that needs to go to the L terminal on the fan...if you put the permanent live in there the fan will will be permanently on..

Please check and post back the wiring at the switch to confirm which is which.

Thanks. That makes more sense.

To confirm the wiring from the switch is:

Blue (N)
Red (L)
Earth
Yellow with a red sleeve - I am assuming that this is the switched live.

So the earth and the live should be put into terminal blocks and taped off?

thanks again for the help.
