Dear Colleagues,
I have a Flamingo 50s boiler which has, what I believe to be, a faulty gas valve?

When the CH and HW are turned initially, the boiler works fine, heating water & rads. After say about 45-mins when the stat calls for heat, there normally is a single click from the boiler and this results in a blue flame in the furnace, but sometimes, this click turns into a griding sound lasting about 20-30 secs, after which it will fire up. This is getting progressively worse.

I can buy the valve (Honeywell)online, and wondered this is a big job to replace and if this is something I can tackle myself? I have in the past drained and replaced the thermocouple, and performed general annual servicing of the boiler myself.

I am assuming there is no need to replace the thermocouple as the pilot light never goes out. Is any other reason for this symptom?

Of course, it is possible it is NOT the gas valve? If any kind person can help answer this for me I would be most grateful.

Kindly,
Red.

It would be very dangerous for you to attempt to replace the gas valve red and illegal

Also there are a few types of valves that look the same but it is very important to fit the correct one

Think of your safety and your families,as said ,please get a qualified registered gas engineer in

Sure - I have no problem with that.
Before I call someone in, would you agree with the diagnosis?
Just trying to make sure I don't get told I need x,y, and z done too and a whole day to complete the job.

Many thanks,
Red.
