Hi,
I have seperate hot/cold water taps embedded into a wall. The handle of the tap is removable. It pushes onto a type of white plastic 'washer' with teeth around it. The 'washer' looks to have a similar internal set of teeth at the other end that fits to some kind of adapter to control the water from the supply pipe. The 'washer' is also screwed onto the adapter through the middle of the 'washer;

The internal thread of the washer has worn down and no longer turns the water on and off so I need to replace.

The problem is I don't know how to describe this fitting hence my loose description of a washer so can't identify where to buy one. I have attached a pic of the washer. Hopefully I have explained well enough to understand with the picture.

Can anyone tell me what is called and if it is the sort of thing I should be able to pick up in a DIY superstore or do I need to go somewhere more specialised.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I will check and post later. I'll also post a pic of the fitting as my explanation probably isn't that clear.
Thanks

It's actually called a head carrier, and should be available from someone like bathstore.

You can get them from here http://www.lunns.net/tapspares/ but do check the price first, new handles may be a cheaper option.
