Hi,

Im desperate for your help! :(

Just bought a new fridge. The missus in her infinite wisdom, whilst cleaning it used to the wrong side of the sponge and has scratched a whole area on the fridge door!

Its a brushed stainless steel service. Can anything be done to fix this?

Please help!

Hi Jman,

You will need to polish out the scratches, you will need a cutting compound suitable for stainless, then rub in the direction of the brushed effect. Could take a long time!

Scotchbrite is scourer which probably caused the problem in the first place. There are people such as Door Doctors who may be able to help. The job is do-able, just need the technique.

How bad is it, just few light scratches?
Brushed finish stainless is quite easy to repair, a medium or coarse Gary-block (diamond inmpregnated rubber block) a few rubs in the grain direction, you need to keep it in long straight runs, easing of pressure start and finish of each

Different story if its lacquered though.

Difficult to tell, but its smack in the middle of the panels, cant really tell what kind of polish it is, looks like a fairly fine grained?
I think even the gary-block method wouldn't create an invisible repair, but worth a go. See how it goes on a trial patch somewhere if possible.
A good coat of baby oil might take the eye off it afterwards.

Looks to me like it has a lacquer or something on it, and I don't think it's just polished.
