Red Arrows performing at Bournemouth airshow today...not long after 1 0'clock they flew over our place, in "Almost" Diamond formation....except one..which was lower (Guestimate 500 feet) and was well behind the others..then heard this a few hours ago

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/red-arrow-jet- ... 15373.html

Seems to be no news on the pilot yet...

This has just been posted on the Air Festival Twitter feed :(

Quote:
The MOD have confirmed the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force Aerobatics Team, The Red Arrows. Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth Air Festival will issue a statement shortly.

Extremely sad news.

One of them had a bad bird strike at Blackpool two weeks ago, but made it back to the airport without mishap.
As there does not appear to have been another aircraft involved in this accident it would look towards technical problems.

We watched the Red Arrows in Bournemouth today. Amazing the skill those pilots. It is sad that he died after ejecting trying to prevent the plane hitting any houses.

Awful news. So sad for his wife and mates and all the people that will miss their displays while the team is grounded. They're as British as fish and chips. RIP Jon.

He could have baled out, but chose to put the plane down in a safe area.

That takes guts. :salute:

I grew up seeing the red arrows at all the shows I was taken to ,great displays and always left you with so much respect for the team
I know that have been hit hard with cut backs and have done really well to keep the first rate program going as they have done
My deepest regret at what has happened and sincere condolences to his family

So sad that the best (second to none) display team in the world have suffered the loss of a truly brilliant pilot....My heart goes out to his family and friends.
