hello thescruff, ru there? he must have gone to make a cup of tea but i'm sure the many other plumbers out there will be able to help me.

I am taking out the last radiator in a 'circuit', i need to know if i should just cap-off the flow and return pipes (once i take off the radiator), or join the flow and return pipes together (so as to maintain the loop)? The radiator will not be replaced, ever!!!

I'll be grateful for your kind assistance. Many thanks,
Kintangoman. ::b

thanks gday2uk!
I was worried if i cap pipes, the flow & return objective will be defeated, considering its a circuit. i will go ahead and cap the pipes.

Many thanks, Kintangoman.

Is this a one pipe loop, can you post a pic or drawing.

If by circuit you mean single pipe loop then each rad should 'sit' on the pipe where the natural convection of hot water causes the rads to heat up. Capping the rad valves will not affect the flow of water around the loop.

Welcome back scruff its definately a two loop installation, with separate flow and return pipes, not a single loop system.

gday2uk, thanks for the feedback.

i have capped off pipes, but with a bit of drama?
used angle grinder to cut floor board to enable cutting and capping of pipes. was worried about how close to boards pipes might be but hoped they had been properly installed (1/5th notch on joist? and pipe clips to secure ipipes). pipes were actually resting/touching boards, and only
about 1/10th of joist notched.)
so, i fired up grinder and went about my business. then i heard a hissing sound, pulled back grinder blade and whooosh - water everywhere. i quickly snapped off the now cut floorboard, pulled up pipes and cut each and used plastic caps to cap the lot. was covered in some very dirty water, but job done anyway.

why didn't the PLUNKER drain down b4 attempting to cap pipes? i hear you say? well, i had not actually wanted to cap them 2day, but just got carried away. i intended to use end-feed caps when i was to do the job (on Friday). its done now anyway. trouble is i dont trust these plastic/speedfeed caps so will drain on friday and cap with end-feed.
Cheers guys.

Much more fun doing these jobs 'live', also never underestimate how badly the last person could cock up a job

tried to drain down central heating today and cap pipe tails with end feed but drain tap (just the one, below pump) was solid and couldn't shift it?

have abandoned draining system till i install towel rail in a couple of weeks downstairs. i will try drain tap again and flush system then introduce inhibitant!!! well, hope drain tap works then.

i believe UR right scruff! have already got replacement washer for when i make a second attempt. also have another drain tap if i need to replace the whole thing.
i might check if boiler has a drain tap? i suppose it should. regardless, i will need to rectify drain tap below pump anyway. no need waiting for when there is an emergency?

stop tap controlling feed to F&E is also not operable? had to place wood above vessel and tie string to hold up float. might have to replace with service valve.

Bit a wood and string is standard plumbing procedure

If you turn the draincock on you can can stick a very thin screwdriver up the spout to free the washer.

Have the hose pipe ready
