Excellent news I was a little worried I had fixed it for now but screwed it up for a later day.

I learned loads on this little project, big thanks again to all who contributed

As Scruff says, just make sure the pipe comes all the way to the top ring of the fitting

I found it a bit fiddly to get the whole thing back together, gravity was not my friend and all the jointing compound I used didn’t help as its also a lubricant (just learned that)
Anyway point I am making is for other less experienced people like myself, keep the pipe all the way to the top ring of the fitting as Dickie says and be aware that it can/will drop if your not careful, it did for me a couple of times before I got the knack of holding the pipe in place with pliers in one hand (not to firmly that the pipe is damaged) and tightening the nut on the valve with the other
I am sure there are other/better ways but that worked for me.

Cheers
James
