I've been asked to set up a projector, screen and speakers.

Anyone got experience of doing this sort of thing.

I assume I need these sort of fixings for the ceiling mount.

The projector will be approx 3m from the screen and they want 4 ceiling mounted speakers so I'll need an amp.

Any suggestions?

Ta.

Look up Computer Village and see if they have anything useful.

They do most of the Schools.

They don't give much away on their website. Understandable seeing as they'd want to do the installation and earn a crust.

Was generally looking for some advice in case anyone had done any.

Where exactly is the projector going Rich, as in what kind of building?

The bolts you have picked would be ok on concrete or masonry, but not many ceilings are made from concrete!

If it is a traditional ceiling it is best if you can find the studs and drill directly into them.

What weight is the projector, if it is being ceiling mounted?

what weight are the speakers?

Hi Chez

There are suspended ceilings, about a metre below solid concrete ceilings.

The projectors generally weigh a couple of KG.

The speakers are failry light and I've seen them fitted into the false ceiling in another room.

My biggest worry is fixing it to the ceiling and it falling on someone's head, but that's the sort of thing I always worry about.

You get a ceiling bracket for fixing to the concrete then an extension pole.

This might help
http://www.projectorpoint.co.uk/project ... ounts.html

See the unicol one, perhaps you can put it through the false ceiling directly into teh concrete

I was looking at getting a projector a while ago but never got round to it. I believe that you can get projectors that can be hung upside down rather than on a shelf. The projector has a means in inverting the picture without making it distorted

That's easy RichieP just use a normal SDS bit the right size and hope you don't hit a reinforcing bar.

Assuming you have an SDS hammer drill that is.

They are very helpful them guys. I spoke to them before regarding buying a projector. They are not out to make a quick buck. Nice to see. Will definitely buy it off them when I get the dosh

An sds drill is definately best for concrete.

Ensure that you have some good goggles or a face vsior or all the crap will go in your eyes.

Don't use the sheild anchors or rawl bolts as they can be difficult if they start to spin in the hole, use these instead in the correct size for what you need- dead link removed

The thrubolts have the advantage that if the hole is slightly too big you can grip the threaded part with pliers and tighten the nut, which makes the end expand and grip, you can't do that with one of the bolt type fasteners. You can also push the thrubolts through the workpiece, which can make some installation jobs much easier.

The difference between a normal drill and sds drill is enormous, you definately need sds, even a cheap on will do-

Get a drill bit that is required for the thrubolts that you are using and then drill to the correct depth, then hammer the thru bolt home, here is an example-

thrubolts

Make sure you get the right size thrubolts, so you need to know the size of the holes in the projector mount, or else play it safe and get the thinnest size and take some penny washers with you.

When you get the thrubolts make sure you have a ring spanner that fits the nut and then it's much easier to fix it in place, rather then using an adjustable etc.

If you are unsure of anything just say and someone will answer
