I'd love to get an old wooden Jack plane, you know about 2 ft long we used at school, to me the blades held their edge longer.

Got an old wooden jack, with blade, I think it's around the 36" mark scratch without mesureing it, even got a few moulding planes, nothing quite like em. Razz

Saws wise, 3 Distons, a D95 D8 panal & 14" Tennon, also a nice brass backed one Thumbright

i normally use the bahco 244 saws. I find they last probably the longest of all the available saws. then again as soon as they cut laminate the set has gone off them anyway and its time for a new saw.

im 27 and i can remember the joiners i worked with as a youngun had all the old distin saws. we also used them at school. theres a few in my shed here. perhaps i should get em sharpened up and use them instead of the normal hardpoint type saws.

remember the old wooden toolboxes joiners always had back in the day? with the spaces for saws etc hahaha

Irwin Jack saws seem to be a great general use saw, about £4.50 I think it was last time I bought one (from a trade store). Also one time I got really frustrated and slamed the toothed edge down into a piec of wood (not very professional I know!) and the teeth didn't break!!

On a slightly different subject, someone mentioned a saw from Lidl. I was wondering, have many people used the cheap tools you can get at Lidl and how good are they really?? Someone was telling me they got a laser level there and it was great.
