I have a white knight tumble dryer cl 382 wv.the drum wont turn,the belt is ok but the motor is making a humming noise but will not turn.Took lid off to turn the drum by hand, only then will it turn but when you turn it off and on again the problem persists.

sounds like the capacitor is faulty, are you saying that if you give it a push to start it runs ok ? if so then 99% chance tha capacitor is faulty, less than 10 quid to buy.
it will be mounted next to the motor and should look something like this

they are measured in microfarads (uf) and you need to get the same size as what you have, 8uf if i am not mistaken !
btw they can give you a shock if not discharged so remember to ALWAYS disconect from supply while you are working on the appliance and short out the terminals of the capacitor with suitable insulated pliers before touching it  |

| Hi, I have the exact same problem, I have had the problem before also it was the wire burnt out on the capacitor. I repaired the wiring and it worked great again. The wiring is ok this time so Im going to try a capacitor. Cheers Stevelusky |

i've just got rid of my white knight tumble drier
the moter & element were fine but the rear boss on the drum came loose on the rivets & made a thump every turn, by the time i got a chance to look at it the holes on the boss were no longer round but more elongated

I have a White Knight Tumble Dryer 427 and had the same fault. The motor would hum but not begin to spin automatically. If I gave the drum a push it worked fine.
Bought the capacitor from the suggested company and it fixed the problem.
Thanks for the tip.
Now I can spend the 'new tumble dyer' money on a better pressure washer without telling the misses
