|
|
|
| The brushes were ruined on a DC07 motor I have so replaced it with some new ones and it took chunks out of them. I looks like it's the Armature that's damaged, anyone know how I can fix this? that's if it's possible. |

dont take offence, but stupid question...
did you put them in the correct way around for the rotation of the motor?
if theres damage on the armature you should feel it when rotated with your finger on there...
if brushes were installed in wrong direction and it rotates they would dig in wouldnt they?
btw i have no idea if they can be installed wrong... im just going by what i learned years ago.. _________________ If you can't convince'm with arguments,

In the good old days of DC RN ships we could 'skim and undercut the commutator'. I don't think it's worth the effort these days, with the cost of a replacement motor.

skimming the commutators that takes me back years ago we used 1/4 hp motor to pump the beer up to the bar when they started arking we used to use fine emery cloth taped to a lollypop stick _________________ Gary |

Aye and we also used Martindale sticks, same principle.
Us navy chaps made our own weird and wonderful tools for all sorts.

You can only install the brushes one way on these. I can feel the armatures damaged when I spin it around, my dad said I can make it smooth with some Henry cloth and I've forgot what else but I don't know how. He's gone away for a few weeks so can't ask him.
I can't afford a new motor. |

Try emery cloth to smooth out any grooves, then fine glasspaper, make sure you clear all the emery dust out afterwards.
