Hi everyone,
Here's a little about me and my site-
I am based in Darwen, Lancs and I am a shift worker in a chemical plant. In the last 10 years I have renovated two of my own properties and I have done most of the work myself, hence I know a fair bit about most trades. I do not claim to know everything and I do not claim to be the ultimate handyman, but I did struggle finding a decent domain name hence www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk
This site was started in December 2004 and now receives over 2 million hits per month.
Most of the work on this site is my own but a few friends have helped along the way, it is very difficult doing a job with 2 hands and taking a picture at the same time
There are 1000's of pages on this site so far and I am nowhere near finished.
If anyone has any suggestions or would like to help make a page then please leave a post in the forum.
Thanks

Hi Abi, or whatever your real name is
I am not that handy!
And unfortunately I do not do jobs for people as I am far too busy, the only jobs I do are for the benefit of this website.
I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the website, so a big welcome from ultimatehandyman _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

When I first came down here from Darkest Scotland I thought that's exactly what it meant!
We call it 'Doing Homers'! |

I am amazed you actually have a full time job unrelated to either webmastering or a building trade. I thought you were self taught and made a living from your site and webmastering, especailly as you are so good at it.
It is one hell of an achievement to build a site as successful as this from an initailly low knowledge base.
By the way I have two questions for you: (rather personal but here goes!)
1. How did you find the TIME to build the site, do the DIY and learn both when you had a full time job?
2. With the number of visitors you currently get, the advertising revenue should give you a good living without working at the plant. Do you have a) a lot of children or ex wives? or b) an expensive lifestyle? lol _________________ Jasper

1. I got into DIY at a very early age and it is something that I have always done. If something broke in the house it was not a case of get the phonebook and call someone out, but how do I fix it. I guess I am a fast learner. I'm ok with vehicle repair as well as my first car was an old Cortina, I either had to learn how to fix it myself or else pay someone else to do it. I learnt how to fix most things myself.
I work continental shifts and this is why I am on the forum at different times of the day. On my days off work I go to the gym and then either go and take some pictures for projects for the site or I am building new pages. When ever I am logged into the forum I am working on some part of my site.
If I had to calculate how many hours I put into the site each week it would run into many more than what I work in my full time job.
2. Neither, no kids, no ex-wives, no expensive lifestyle. _________________ DIY | DIY Video |
