Hi,

I have a 32", 2 year CRT Sanyo. All of a sudden the tv went off; into standby mode. We used the remote to turn it back on, but it seemed it tried to turn on but then went into standby mode? angry

I tried changing the fuse, didn't work. tried pluggin it into the wall scoket as opposed to the 4-way, no difference. Tried leaving the tv off for a few days, no dfferent - don't know much about tv's dont want to open it.

googled the problem, someone suggested the tv is too hot, so i put the tv in the coldest room, for a day, still no difference.

Last google result said something about the tube is dead Shocked

Any ideas? if you require more info let me know

I'm not a tv engineer but a mate of mine, used to know fixed tv's all the time. when the tv shut down did it just kinda disapear n leave the white dot in the middle? kinda gives the impression its in stand by mode.

if so its highly possible the "tripler" has gone. I remember he used to repace this item alot, wasnt expencive usually back then about £15 guessing that was 10 year ago, they worked again instantly. but he was a tv engineer and knew what he was doing. (if memory serves correct it was a little box with a lead coming from it)
this item was very easy to replace too, just remember theres high voltage circuits in the back of tv's and you gotta be carfull what you touch!
it isnt only the capacitors that hold a high charge the back of the tube does too... your really better off taking it to someone who knows what they're doing, but google the "tripler with your tv" see if the symptoms seem the same, if so this knowledge may save you a few quid rather than being ripped off.

hope this info might be on the right track.... good luck

Hi MrMuscle,

no idea what is wrong with your TV - but don't go poking around inside if you don't know what is wrong or what you are doing! I think on a colour tube, there is around 28,000 volts waiting for you!!!
When I was fixing Computer Terminals 20 years ago, we just had 12" B&W tubes and they had about 14,000 V at the tube connection and the rule was never to work around that area of the device on your own "just in case" - used to scare the office staff shitless when you stuck the screwdriver into the hole and grounded it Laughing (used to scare me too Crying Laughing )

Find an old-fashioned TV Repair corner shop and take in it.

I am going to guess a R620 120k hi Res is a High Voltage (120,000 V) 620 Ohm Resister.

If that is what has gone wrong, then a repair shop that repairs to component level rather then swapping out boards should be able to replace what sounds like a fairly basic item at a pretty low cost

(Hope I am right - I am dredging up info at the back of my head from the early 1980's Laughing )
