Hi. I have a Samsung ss20wh1/xeu refrigerator, American style with freezer on the left, refrigerator on the right. There is no ice maker.
The fridge and freezer suddenly have been rising in temperature, shown on the digital temperature display on the door. They stay, for example, about 15 degrees higher than they should and can return to normal without any action.
Apparently there is a known issue with some of the components on this model, can anyone help? Although not usually carrying out appliance repairs, I am a qualified electrician so can test components or read wiring diagrams if anyone has any.
Thanks in advance |

I'm no expert on fridges, but I would assume that there is a sensor in both the fridge and freezer side and so it could be a fault with a circuit board that is connected to the temperature sensors.
I don't suppose it is still under guarantee is it? _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

Hi Vero44, welcome to UHm Forum
I can't answer your question, but I happen to also have a Samsung fridge that I had to get a spare for - took ages to track down a supplier but managed it in the end.
So if once you know what you are after but are having trouble finding a stockist for the part, just shout and I'll dig the name out _________________ Don't forget to vote in the "Member Location" poll in the Lounge

Hi, I am a appliance repair engineer for british gas electrical services. I have come across this fault A LOT, it is more than likely one of the thermistors (temp sensors) that is causing the problem. if i remember rightly there is one in the fridge and 1 in the freezer, could be either one tbh, i cant remember off hand the resistance you should get but they are not that expensive, so fit both.
Is it actually holding temp ok ??
Is it just displaying the "wrong" temp ??
Is it affecting fridge and freezer or just one side ??
All the bits your interested in are hidden behind the plastic panels INSIDE the fridge/freezer, so empty the food/shelves out, they are not that hard to get to pieces tbh, then if you like take a couple of photos of the exposed parts and i can point out the likely suspects ! They are usually green/yellow plasitc with a black lead and nearly always just plugged in ! they are about as thick as a pencil as well, good luck, any questions just shout  |

Thanks for the replies to date guys. No the appliance is not still in guarantee.
The fridge and freezer both climb in temperature (according to the display) at the same time when the fault occurs. Does that rule out a thermistor problem as this should affect one side only I would think?
There was a huge amount of dust blocking the air intake at the bottom of the appliance, I'm hoping this may be the fault. It would explain the symptoms I think. Will keep an eye on the temperature now, nothing in it to get defrosted. Would still appreciate a commissioning manual if there's one out there.
Where do you source your Samsung bits stevelusky and Hoovie? |

Just an update on this fault. It seemed OK for a few weeks then the freezer temp warning started to flash. The actual temp inside the freezer went up to 4 degrees Centigrade (measured on a separate digital thermometer). The display was set to -16 degrees so it was beeping an alert to say it was out of range. I have removed the inside panel which reveals a plastic fan and a temperature sensor. I presume this temp sensor is OK as the freezer control panel knows that it is out of range. The refrigerator temp has remained stable.
Any idea what to try next? |
