I've got a Bosch cordless drill/driver, and it's fine, but for the life of me, I can't find Hotpoint power tools anywhere!.. Smile

Bosch are excellent quality Thumbright

My mum has an hotpoint washing machine and tumble drier and they are both about 15 years old. They are both going strong still!

The washing machine has only broken down about 4 times and each time it was the motor brushes, which is very easy to fix. All the other components have been fine so far.

These days machines are that cheap that it is often cheaper to replace them rather than fix them. I remember when I was a lad and an old lady near me had a broken electric kettle, I went and got her a new element and fitted it for her. Today you would not be able to buy a new element and if an electric kettle did break it would not be economical to fix it as they are so cheap now.

We have Hotpoint Ultima range for both washing machine and tumble dryer. The washine machine has been faultless in the 3-4 years we've had it - goes at least twice a day every day - but the tumble dryer has been a little more problematic - dryer stops heating when in dryer mode. This has gone at least twice now in the last 12 months. We have a good appliance electrician who always gets stuff going again. Costs £50 to repair. This is a known fault with the dryer but when I tracked down the parts on eBay they are about £5 so may do a DIY job next time it fails.

Our kettle (Dualit) blew it's element to bits, right at brew time too Crying

Pen brought home a kettle from a supermarket, jug, cordless, fast boil - £4.99 Bang Head it's still going strong!

I agree tim, our dishwasher which was Hotpoint lasted just 3 years and the washing machine that has just packed up (hotpoint aswell) 3 and a half years yet the one previous was hotpoint and that lasted 9 years.
We've just brought a zanussi which are apparently made by AEG.
we still haven't replaced the dishwasher but looks like we are going with MIELE great stuff but bloody expensive.

MIELE are supposed to be very good, but it brings up the old debate of whether to buy an expensive one that will last 10 years or buy one that is a third of the price and will last 3 years.

Hotpoint are the most popular brand by a long way, so there are bound to be more problems reported with them as there are many more of them out there, saying that though GDA (the group that owns hotpoint/creda/cannon) got bought out by MERLONI (the group that makes indesit/ariston) as soon as they took over the build quality dropped massively.

Miele are the best but are much more expensive to buy, AEG and bosch are good appliance but still not to expensive, be careful as some of the cheaper bosch dishwashers are hotpoints in disguise :)
