In order to enclose the pipes that run from wall to loo to hand basin to bath some re-routing is planned. I've done just enough soldering in the past to be wary, and am considering push-on fittings for 15mm copper cold water pipes. Some of the joints would be on the old pipes and paint would have to be removed. Comments would be gratefully received.

I prefer to use John Guest Push fit fittings and they are available from Screwfix, Toolstation an B&Q plus plumbers merchants. they are also twist lock which reduces the risk of a blowout. I also use their pipe because it is much cheaper than copper and alot more flexible, although you can use either.

When removing paint from pipes, I usually use wire wool.

jozeffo, thanks for that. Do you think paint stripper with the wire wool would contaminate the surface and cause future problems ? There appear to be several coats of old paint.

Best way to remove the paint is with heat and fine wire wool.

Why not use compression fittings to start off from the copper to the plastic.

Thank you Scruff. The concern is re-routing the 15mm copper supply to the cistern, see attached sketch (if not too large, if so, reduced version to follow). Two reasons for doing this, first to have only one slot in the top of the proposed plywood enclosure and second, appearance. If compression fittings don't leak on old paint-stripped copper they would be fine. The other unknown is an elbow connection to the union on the bottom of the cistern somehow incorporating a butterfly type isolating valve as used on washing machines. Does this sound possible ?

Use a jointing compound on the olive, and an insert in the plastic.

Yes use the bent tap connector.

Compression on the old copper pipe would be best, but use a jointing compound on the olive to help seal it.

What was the frame bit in the sketch, that I chopped off.

That looks okay. The original was jpeg 2130 x 3042 307 KB. The frame part was a section through a similar pipe enclosure in this house, it shows the use of bits of tongue and groove board tacked on as locators for the top enabling it to be lifted off without tools. The present project is in someone else's house which is why avoiding incurable leaks is of such interest.

Take the resolution down from 300,000 to 72.000 and reduce the pic to 1200 max and you'll be fine

No leak is incurable, just the cost can spiral when you have to start wrecking things.
