Well it all finally happened, got the ferry from Newhaven, managed to get a bit of kip on ferry, disembarked at 03.30 got to Saumur in the Loire by 08.30 (nice fast toll roads :thumbright: )
Phoned owner of accom to try and get in early, no probs would contact cleaner, had look around, then lunch, drove to accom found it nice but not as clean as expected.Toured the local area to see what was about, very nice.

Sun went out for lunch, sat in poshy type restuarant, owner on phone form UK, her and cleaners bookings did not match therefore cleaner had not cleaned or put fresh linen and towels out, owner gave us £75 discount which nearly paid for lunch. Had a laugh with her about our travel fiasco and would look back at ' remember when' and have a laugh. One of those things did not spoil our hols.

Then went to Normandy for week, property had mice no problem told owners who lived on site. They put down a 'humane' trap we took it to them they said they would release it in the country. One lisped "Oh no I couldn't kill it", marigolded hand on hip.

Next day caught another, my Sister (a farmers wife) got rid of that one and subsequent ones.
Didn't mind the mice as we were in the country and they had chickens, fact of life.

Nevertheless I didn't bend over all the time we were there, and told the wife I was not going to reverse into the drive  .

While I was over there managed to lose two fillings and break one tooth, having dental insurance did think about having local treatment but with my french, talking english with ze french accent, didn't think it would be safe.
Came home, had temp filling put on then got infection in one tooth, had one tooth out last Thurs, 'tother coming out in 3 weeks. Have had problems with both of these for 6 yrs, one had root canal work, now dentist has decided to pull them both.

We had a good time, my sister has only been to Holland with us and this year to France.
She won't drive further than Taunton from Exford doesn't like driving on motorways much.

So to go to France on fast toll roads and see the Chateaux of the Loire was a change or her.

She could tell us all the breeds of cows, sheep and other animals in the fields though.

It was one of those holidays where little things that went wrong made it memorable.

We had lovely weather 22-25c most days.
Deer in the garden and woods of the first Gite, apple and peach trees luvverley.
